Are your puppies health-tested?
Every puppy undergoes a rigorous health evaluation by a licensed veterinarian, which includes a comprehensive physical examination, vaccinations, and deworming. While genetic testing is not conducted on every puppy, we collaborate exclusively with breeders who have carefully selected healthy parent dogs with sound temperaments and strong lineage. This ensures that our puppies meet the highest standards of health and well-being.
Where are the puppies raised?
Our puppies are raised with the utmost care in meticulously maintained, indoor environments by our hand selected foster homes across Sydney. Each foster parent specializes in only one or two breeds, ensuring unmatched attention to detail, proper socialization, and an optimal start to life. From their first days, our puppies are given premium care, expert monitoring, and early socialization to ensure they grow into confident, healthy companions.
How much do they cost?
Our pricing varies depending on age and sex. We offer a variety of options to fit your needs and budget. Please visit our [page link] for more information.
How big will my puppy get?
Our size estimates are based on a combination of factors, including the parents’ sizes, the puppy’s current growth trajectory, and our experience with their specific breed. While these estimates are highly accurate, small variations may occur. We pride ourselves on providing as much information as possible to help you prepare for your puppy’s development.
Can I meet the puppy before purchase?
For the health and safety of our puppies, all viewings are conducted virtually. This ensures a stress-free environment while still allowing you to see your chosen puppy. Once a deposit is placed, pickup & delivery arrangements are made at our Sydney, NSW location, where we provide a seamless, personalized experience.
What if I change my mind after placing a deposit?
As a reflection of our commitment to fairness, deposits can always be refunded. However, we offer the flexibility to transfer your deposit toward a future puppy within a 3 month - 6 months timeframe, allowing you to move forward when the time is right for your family.
What if I am not ready to pick up my puppy right away after placing a deposit?
At Margie's Poodle Rescue, we focus on what is best for each puppy's emotional and developmental well-being. Puppies listed as available are fully ready for their forever homes, meaning they have received age appropriate vaccinations, vet clearance, and socialization.
Because this transition period is so important, we can only hold puppies for up to five (7) days from the deposit date, or Ten (10) days maximum if arranged in advance. Holding them longer can affect their bonding and training progress.
Deposits are refundable & can also be transferable toward a future litter if you cannot move forward within the 7-10 day window. See reservation policy...
Do you deliver your puppies?
Yes, we offer nationwide delivery for long-distance placements. Our Puppies only travel in the cabin section of an airplane alongside their flight nannies in a temperature controlled environment with all necessary documentation and items to ensure a smooth and safe flight.
For added reassurance, we work with a trusted pet transport agency who provide a premium nanny service, where a team member accompanies the puppy in the cabin throughout the flight and personally hand delivers your puppy to you for full peace of mind.
For shorter distances, we have a designated driver who travels alongside a member or nanny in a well equipped vehicle to ensure a comfortable and secure journey for your new puppy.
Please note that all nanny and delivery options are subject to an additional shipping fee.
Can I see the parents of the puppy?
The parents of our puppies stay with their dedicated foster parents, where they are cared for in loving, indoor environments. These foster parents focus on ensuring the health, happiness, and well-being of the parent dogs.
We are happy to provide photos and detailed information about the parents, including their size, temperament, and lineage, upon request. This ensures you know exactly where your puppy comes from and can trust in the quality of their upbringing.
What’s the Difference Between Toy and Miniature Poodles?
Size is the main difference:
Toy Poodle: Under 28 cm (11 in) tall, 2.5–4.5 kg
Miniature Poodle: 28–38 cm (11–15 in), 5–9 kg
Temperamentally, Toy Poodles can be slightly more delicate and sensitive, while Miniature Poodles tend to be more robust and physically active. Both are equally intelligent, affectionate, and trainable.
How do you ensure your practices are ethical and responsible?
At Margie's Poodle Rescue, we are committed to setting the highest standard for ethical and responsible breeding practices. The well-being of both our puppies and their parents is our top priority. The parents of our puppies are cared for in loving, indoor environments by foster parents who treat them as family members, not breeding dogs. They are provided with a safe, clean, and enriching space where their physical and emotional needs are met daily.
We ensure the parents receive regular veterinary care, a balanced diet, and plenty of exercise and socialization. Their well-being is directly tied to the quality of the puppies they produce, so their health, happiness, and care are non-negotiable. In fact, we choose to work exclusively with foster homes who specialize in one or two breeds, allowing them to give each dog individualized attention and maintain the highest level of expertise.
Transparency is key to our approach. Upon request, we are happy to provide photos and detailed information about the parents, including their size, temperament, and lineage. This ensures you know exactly where your puppy comes from and can trust in the quality of their upbringing.
We firmly stand against puppy mills as we state again clearly, WE ARE A RESCUE. These operations neglect the health and welfare of both parents and puppies, focusing on profit over proper care. Dogs in these conditions are often subjected to overcrowding, lack of proper nutrition, little to no veterinary care, and complete neglect of their emotional needs. These conditions will always show in the health and temperament of a puppy, often resulting in behavioral issues from lack of socialization, weakened immune systems, and chronic health problems.
By supporting healthy ethical practices, we are proud to provide families with healthy, well-socialized puppies who come from responsible, loving environments. Some of our puppies come from homes who either could no longer provide for the pups or the carer passed away. This level of care ensures that each puppy starts their life on the right foot and is ready to become a cherished family member.
What is included with the puppy?

FAQs❗
Choosing a Toy or Miniature Poodle comes with a host of decisions and new routines, especially for first-time owners. Below are answers to some of the most common questions Australian pet owners ask about these brilliant, curly-coated companions—covering everything from shedding to costs to care.❗
How Much Does a Poodle Cost in Australia?
The initial purchase price from an ethical breeder typically ranges from $3,000 to $5,500 AUD, depending on pedigree, colour, and breeder reputation.
Additional upfront costs include:
Vet check, microchipping, and vaccination: ~$300–$500
Grooming tools, crate, and bedding: ~$300–$600
Puppy preschool or training classes: ~$N/A (Pups mostly trained & homeschooled by foster parents)
Do Toy and Miniature Poodles Shed?
Very little. These breeds are considered non-shedding, which means:
No seasonal shedding
No fur on furniture or clothing
Coat must be manually maintained with brushing and grooming
What they lack in shedding, they make up for in grooming requirements—every 4–6 weeks professionally plus at-home care 2–3 times weekly.
Are Poodles Good for Apartment Living?
Yes, especially Toy Poodles. Their small size, quiet indoor habits, and ease of training make them ideal for apartments, as long as they receive:
At least 30 minutes of daily exercise
Regular mental stimulation (puzzle toys, training games)
Emotional connection with their owner
They don’t require large outdoor spaces but do need structured routines and companionship to thrive.
Do Poodles Bark a Lot?
They can—but not always. Toy and Miniature Poodles are alert and vocal, meaning they’ll bark when something catches their attention. However, excessive barking is usually due to:
Boredom
Separation anxiety
Lack of training or routine
With positive reinforcement and clear boundaries, barking can be minimised. Early socialisation also helps reduce over-reactivity to new sounds or visitors.
How Long Do Toy & Miniature Poodles Live?
With proper care, these Poodles enjoy long, healthy lifespans:
Toy Poodles: 14–17 years
Miniature Poodles: 13–15 years
Factors influencing lifespan:
Quality diet
Preventative vet care
Consistent dental hygiene
Genetic health (from ethical breeding)
Do They Get Along With Other Pets?
Yes—when socialised early, Toy and Miniature Poodles are generally excellent with:
Other dogs (particularly small breeds)
Cats (especially if introduced gradually)
Older children who respect boundaries
Always supervise initial introductions and provide each pet with their own space and resources.
Are Poodles Hypoallergenic?
Yes—Toy and Miniature Poodles are considered one of the most hypoallergenic dog breeds. This is due to their unique curly coat that traps dander (dead skin cells) rather than shedding it into the environment. However, no dog is truly 100% hypoallergenic.
Important notes:
Allergy sufferers may still react to saliva or skin oils
Regular grooming and cleaning are essential to reduce allergens
Always meet the breed before committing if you have sensitivities
“Many of our clients with allergies tolerate Poodles very well, but hygiene and coat maintenance are key,"
Dr. Rachel Levin, a veterinary allergist in Sydney advises.
Are They Easy to Train?
Extremely. Poodles are ranked among the top 3 most intelligent breeds globally, known for:
Fast learning and command retention
Eagerness to please
Emotional sensitivity (they respond to your tone and energy)
They thrive in positive reinforcement training environments and excel in obedience, agility, and even scent work. Harsh methods should be avoided, as they can create fear or resistance.
Are puppies microchipped before rehoming?
By law in all Australian states, dogs must be microchipped before rehoming. A signed veterinary vaccination certificate must be provided to the new owner.
